Unusual self-care routines to feel your best

Don't get me wrong, I love saunas and massages. But they are a specific type of self-care, and for most of us, a luxury.

I want to share with you ideas of self-care routines that go beyond that, and that will inspire you to create your own unique routine!

Stay to the end of the email for THE question that is the foundation of everything else in terms of self-care.

🤔 What even is self-care?

For me, a self-care routine is anything that helps me move from overstimulation (high stress, anxiety) or exhaustion (lethargy, burn-out) into a state of balance.

Your self-care routine should be unique to YOU. Nobody knows better than you what works for you.

What I have found works best for me is annoyingly simple: going outside to take a walk in the park. Movement and nature are an insanely effective combo against stress.

Here are other ideas that might make sense for you too :)

🧠 The power of inspiration as a way to shift our mindset

When we're under or overstimulated, we can get stuck in a mindspace that is not serving us. Include in your routine different ways to challenge your perspective:

  • Listen to a motivating podcast
  • Learn something new
  • Allow yourself to start something and be a beginner (i.e. learn to be okay with not being good at something right away!)

👥 Connection is healing

Many studies have shown that positive social connections are a pillar of our mental health. A comprehensive self-care routine should definitely include connecting with others in meaningful ways.

  • Play an online game with a friend
  • Volunteer to help others
  • Allow yourself to be vulnerable with someone who has your best interest at heart

🧘‍♀️ Honor Your Body

I will die on this hill: mental health and physical health are one and the same.

When we take care of our body, we prove to ourselves that we are worthy of love and attention. It's a thousand times easier to feel good in our head if our body is pain and discomfort-free.

  • Try a new healthy recipe once a week
  • Start your mornings with mindful movement
  • Follow through with any medical treatments you may need
  • Practice gratitude for your body through meditation
  • Prioritize your sleep – it’s the ultimate self-care routine 😴

💭 The one question that underlies everything else

Ask this question often: “How am I feeling? What do I truly need?”

Many of us are disconnected from our emotions because we've been told they’re not valid, or we've learned to suppress them. Take time to ask and truly listen.

This is a deeper kind of self-care. It’s about checking in with yourself, regularly, to better understand your needs.

🌿 Your well-being journey

Self-care is not about expensive spa days or scented candles.

It’s about tuning into your real needs and creating routines that nurture your mental, emotional, and physical health.

And that's exactly what I do 🥰 Click here and let's make it happen for you.

Any questions? Comments? I would love to know your thoughts.

Om, peace 🧡

I received this question this week from one of my wonderful clients: "It's so hard to build a new routine! Does it have to be daily to be effective?" And you know what? I feel you. It is hard to build a routine, because we have to go against habits that have been ingrained in us for years, maybe even decades. A routine doesn't have to be a daily routine to be effective, BUT paradoxically, it's easier to maintain something you do every day. Because the goal is for the routine to become...

I was asked this important question last week by one of my wonderful clients. Picture this. You're barely managing a self-care routine as it is, and suddenly... 💀 Your son starts kindergarten💀 You have to travel for work💀 You have to prepare for an impending move💀 3 of your coworkers are going on holiday and 2 others call in sick during crunch time Any of these familiar? This is when I like to call in the Busy Mode Method. (I heard about from a mentor of mine called Ella, the Fitness Psych.)...

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the little rant I had after one of my clients came back from their physiotherapist. Long story short, my client talked to their physio about their pain, and the physio was very dramatic and alarming about it. My client came out of this session panicked, wondering if they could even get better. Disclaimer: I would never question a medical professional's diagnosis, that's not what this is about. My issue is with the way this physio talked to my...
